How to make scones fast using easy 10-minute recipe without oven

Scones are adored by many and they come in every flavour imaginable from classic plain, fruity delights to savoury cheese-laden treats.

Having a simple yet versatile recipe at your disposal means you can whip up your personal favourites with ease and perhaps cheaper than buying them in supermarkets.

Taking to her Farmersgirl Kitchen blog where she shares her recipes, Janice Pattie posted her scone recipe that can be made in the air fryer.

She said: “This quick and easy recipe makes four delicious scones that simply melt in your mouth.

“Serve them for afternoon tea with jam and cream, or eat these delicious scones straight from the air fryer with lots of butter.”

So why use the air fryer? Well, compared to your oven, an air fryer will heat up quickly due to the smaller size and the fan and cooking in an air fryer is about half the cost of cooking in a standard oven.

Janice pointed out: “Scones bake best in high heat and the circulating heat in the air fryer helps to ensure they bake evenly all over.”

When following this recipe, the scones will take five minutes to prep and 10 minutes to cook.

Ingredients

150g self-raising flour

Half a teaspoon baking powder

40g butter

25g caster sugar

60ml milk

Method

Start by weighing the flour in a medium bowl and add the baking powder. Cut the butter into small cubes and add to the flour mix.

Rub the butter through the flour with gentle movements until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs. Add the sugar and mix through.

Add the milk to the flour and butter mix. Bring the mixture together with a knife and once a soft dough begins to form use your hands to form it into a ball.

Dust the work surface with flour and roll the dough out into a flat disk about 2cm deep.

Use a plain scone cutter to cut out four scones. Gently patting the dough back together to use all the dough.

Put a piece of baking parchment in the base of your air fryer and place the four scones on top. Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk and a pastry brush.

Set the air fryer at 185C and bake the scones for 10 minutes. Once ready, remove from the air fryer, cool on a cooling rack and serve warm with jam and cream.
