How to make apple and and blackberry crumble in the air fryer

Apple and blackberry crumble is one of the best comfort foods there is, but it can sometimes be a bit of a faff to make, taking between one and two hours to really perfect.

However, food influencer Hayley Dean has revealed one way to speed up the process – by using an air fryer.

In her book How To Make Anything In An Air Fryer, Hayley shares her method for making a delicious apple and blackberry crumble in just over half an hour.

While crumbles can be made using a wide variety of different fruits, for this recipe, Hayley has stuck to the traditional apple and blackberry.

Here’s exactly how you can make Hayley’s delicious apple and blackberry crumble at home using an air fryer.

Apple and Blackberry Crumble (Serves 4)

Ingredients:

  • 400g Bramley apples, peeled and cut into small cubes

  • 70g soft brown sugar

  • 200g blackberries

  • 50g unsalted butter, cold, cut into small cubes

  • 100g plain flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Custard, cream or ice cream, to serve (optional)

Method: 

Take the crisper tray out of the air fryer and preheat to 180°C.

Put the apples into a heatproof dish and sprinkle over 30g of the brown sugar. Cook at 180°C for 10 minutes or until the apples start to soften.

After 10 minutes, add the blackberries to the dish, mix well and cook everything for a further five minutes.

To make the crumble topping, combine the butter and flour in a bowl. Using your fingertips, bring the crumble topping together until it resembles large crumbs.

Add the remaining 40g of the brown sugar and the ground cinnamon to the crumble topping, then stir well.

Scatter the crumble topping over the fruit in the dish. Cook at 180°C for 10 minutes or until the crumble topping starts to turn golden all over.

Spoon the crumble into individual bowls and serve with your choice of custard, cream or ice cream, if you like.
