Nothing is better than a fried egg for breakfast on a buttery piece of toast or as part of a full English – but it turns out there is a better way to cook them.
Fried eggs are delicious but many people can be put off cooking them as they are traditionally cooked in a pan with oil, and no one wants to spend their morning scrubbing away at a greedy frying pan.
However, Annie, a cook and founder of the recipe website Upstate Ramblings has shared there is a much easier and healthier method to tasty fried eggs as all you need is an air fryer.
Annie said: “Learn how to make fried eggs in the air fryer! This delicious breakfast is easy to make and very adaptable.
“There is no need to preheat a pan or heat up the house. You just break some eggs and start the air fryer.”
It may seem obvious, but cooking fried eggs in an air fryer is not only convenient but will result in a more evenly cooked egg with a creamier texture as the hot air will cook it evenly on all sides.
It also requires much less oil so you will have no greasy cleanup afterwards so you can make a fried egg effortlessly.
How to make a fried egg in the air fryer
To try out this recipe, first crack your eggs into a small heatproof bowl or ramekin. Spray with cooking oil or add one or two drops of oil to the container.
Season the egg with salt and pepper then place in the air fryer at 190C for four minutes if you want a fried egg with a runny yolk.
If you want a firmer fried egg, cook the egg at one-minute intervals until it is cooked to your liking.
A medium-fried egg where the yolk is gooey will typically take about six minutes in the air fryer while a fried egg with a firm yolk will take around eight minutes.
Annie said: “The perfect time depends on how you like your eggs cooked. You can cook them for a shorter time and have a runny egg yolk or cook them longer for a firm egg yolk.”
Once cooked, run a spatula or knife around the edge to loosen the egg from its container, and then your perfectly cooked fried egg is ready to serve.
Annie said: “Serving your fried eggs with slices of toast to mop up the runny yolk is traditional. Add toppings for extra flavor, like shredded cheese, hot sauce, or fresh herbs. Or add a little Mcdonald’s Breakfast Sauce and put the fried egg on avocado toast.”
