How much more adults-only is the Red Band Blood Hunt #3?

Marvel’s Blood Hunt #3 is out today and it features their ongoing and new Red Band edition. When Marvel Comics announced new “Red Band” alternatives for their Blood Hunt series, everyone wondered how different it would be. The promise was the polybagged Red Band editions would have more gore, different art, and content for adults only.

As was seen with the first issue, Blood Hunt #1 had some clever changes with the art, be it panels that were completely new or similar with a different bit of violence superimposed on the same background. Check out our breakdown of the first issue differences here.

So, how different is Blood Hunt (Red Band) #3? There’s honestly nothing here that demands you get this version, but there are a few key ones and a positively awesome double-page splash.

All told, there are three new panels of art and a new double-page splash. The three panels of art have the same dialogue. Two offer a bit more carnage as Captain America (Sam Wilson) gives a message to the enemy. Those panels replace the top two in the normal edition below.

The third new panel of art is a shot of the Sahara desert, which is a bit of a head-scratcher since there isn’t any Red Band worthy gore of violence. It’s just people riding horses on a giant dune being chased by vampires. It does remind us this is a global attack from vampires, though.

The scene stealer of new art in the Red Band edition is a double-page splash, which actually replaces a one-page splash. The page features piles of bodies, people hung up on spikes, and the Bloodcoven looking a bit more casual than in the original edition. There are also three additional caption boxes (as seen on the right), which, I might add, are fabulously written by Jed MacKay. Larraz outdoes himself with this page as well.

Warning. Spoilers for the Red Band Blood Hunt #3 edition!

If you’re a Storm fan, you gotta just look away if you bought the Red Band edition, as she’s very dead.
