A 24-year-old Bedford woman is charged with shooting her 56-year-old parents, killing her mother and grievously injuring her father, Thursday morning in Bedford.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said the woman walked into the Washington Street home where she was living with her significant other at around 9 this morning and said she had just shot her parents.
She then walked outside to a car parked on an “adjacent lawn.” Inside were her mother and father, Ryan said. Her mother was declared dead at the scene and her father was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“The investigation is, obviously, very new and we are in the very early stages,” Ryan said, adding that the woman was arrested on site.
Jessica Cavallaro is charged with one count of murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Ryan said Cavallaro is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon for arraignment, during which “a little bit more information, although I don’t expect much more” will be presented.
“As all of you know, I’ve seen you much too often lately,” Ryan said to reporters during a press conference on Washington Street earlier today. “These are horrific incidents of domestic violence.
“They also point to what we talk about all the time, which is the prevalence of guns and the availability of firearms. Many of the incidents we’ve had in the last few weeks, last couple of months, have involved firearms in the hands of people who should not have had them,” she continued.
Bedford Police Chief John Fisher said residents, visitors and those just passing through the community should be aware there will be a “a high level of police activity, some road closures here on Washington Street” and nearby streets.
This is a developing story.
