A WOMAN has suffered serious burns after a holiday cottage exploded.
The horror unfolded in Alton, Staffordshire, at around 12.40pm today.
Emergency crews were scrambled following reports of a gas explosion at a holiday cottage.
One woman, aged in her 50s, was rushed to hospital after suffering serious burns.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire has now been extinguished.
A spokesperson said: “Emergency services carried out a search in the area to make sure everyone was accounted for in the neighbouring properties.
“Gas engineers came out and isolated the supply to make sure the area was left safe.
“An investigation into what caused the explosion is ongoing and emergency services will remain at the scene.”
Police confirmed they were dealing with the blast but did not release any other information.
