Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday reiterated his statement that he would support Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah in becoming the Chief Minister of Assam. Speaking to reporters, Sarma stated, “I am trying my best to see him as the Chief Minister of Assam.”
Addressing Borah’s statement from the previous day, Sarma expressed his desire for the Assam Congress chief to become the next Chief Minister of Assam. He suggested that for this to happen, Borah would need to leave the Congress party and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sarma cited his own example, highlighting that the BJP is an inclusive political party where individuals from other parties can also rise to prominent positions. He mentioned his transition from the Congress to becoming the CM of Assam as evidence of this.
Sarma, who is currently campaigning for Union Minister and former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts, criticised the opposition for their impractical approach. He stated that opposition leaders only criticise the Chief Minister and the state government without offering constructive solutions.
“Whenever they stand in front of a mic, they start abusing us, as if there were no other issues in Assam. However, I shall focus on development. Whenever they criticise me for my government’s ‘mass-friendly schemes’, I’ll allot more funds for such types of development schemes,” Assam CM noted.
On Thursday, Borah accompanied senior party leader Pradyut Bordoloi, who is the Congress candidate for the Nagaon seat, to file nomination papers for the Lok Sabha polls from the Nagaon constituency.
Assam Congress chief Borah, referring to a verse from the Bhagavad Gita, remarked, “Nothing is permanent. Whereas our Chief Minister thinks that his post is permanent for him, he should remember that one day his chair will be taken away; someone else will sit there. Who knows, within a few months, the Assam CM might be changed!.”
