One secluded bay in Spain featured on the list, published by travel specialists Lonely Planet, with its warm waters and beach bar earning it plenty of praise.

The Asturias region of the country is considered one of the prettiest parts of the popular holiday destination, with locals often choosing to head there, to villages like Cudillero.

The region is also home to a particularly pleasant beach, with Torimibia bay in Llanes featuring on the all important list.

The travel guide writers said that the beach in the small town was one of Spain’s “most divine”.

They wrote: “Between two rocky headlands, rippling green fields cascade down to a gold-sand conch-shaped bay washed by the moody-blue Bay of Biscay.

“This is serene Torimbia, one of Asturias’ most-loved beaches and one of Spain’s original naturist spots since the 1960s, thanks to its secluded natural setting.”

They praised its warm seas, even though they’re slightly cooler than waters on stretches of shoreline elsewhere in the country.

In fact the bay’s waters frequently exceed 20C – which is definitely warm enough for a dip.

In the summer months a small chiringuito (beach bar/restaurant) is set up on the sand for convenience, meaning beach-goers can enjoy a tipple without having to trek back into town.

However, Lonely Planet also recommended visiting just before summer in spring, with “gorgeous wildflowers bursting into bloom across the surrounding hills” around that time.

Other visitors have praised the beach as well, with hundreds of people giving it a five star review on TripAdvisor.

One wrote: “This beach is probably one of the best in the area.

“The view is amazing, the sea is quiet, there is a bar with all facilities. So it’s perfect for couples and for families with kids.”

Another said: “This is a beach straight out of a postcard – absolutely stunning!”

A third addd: “This beach in Llanes is absolutely breathtaking. It is a crescent shaped tiny beach with really blue water.”

For anyone wanting to visit the Asturias region this summer, the nearest airports are Asturias (near Oviedo and Gijón) and Santander.

Ryanair has direct flights from the UK from around £14.99 each way.

A night for two in Llanes can be booked from £30.
