Indresh Malik, who talked exclusively to india.com, addressed the widespread trolling directed at Sharmin Segal. He defended his Heeramandi co-star, who essayed the role of Alamzeb in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama.
Renowned for his mastery of the cinematic arts, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali created the epic drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which debuted on Netflix on May 1. Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Shaikh, are the stars of the eight-episode OTT series. Bhansali’s niece, Sharmin Segal essayed the role of Alamzeb, the daughter of Shahi Mahal’s owner and courtesan Mallikajaan (played by Manisha Koirala). She received a lot of screen time as a result of her on-screen romance with Tajdar (played by Taha Shah Badussha), which serves as a crucial narrative. Nevertheless, in the middle of an exceptionally talented group, her performance received negative feedback from cinema enthusiasts. During an exclusive conversation with india.com Indresh Malik, who played Ustadji on the show, defended the ‘Malal‘ actor.
Remembering the first press conference of Heeramandi at Bandra where Sharmin hugged him, Indresh Malik recalled, “The way she reciprocated, full of live, happy-go-lucky, beautiful soul she is.”
Indresh Malik DEFENDS Heeramandi Co-Star Sharmin Segal
Answering if he contacted Sharmin to check up on her, following massive trolling on social media, Malik said, “Jab do logo ke beech ek bonding hoti hai na, co-actors ke beech, bohot zyaada kuch kehne ki zarurat nahi padhti hai. Woh bonding apne ap mein bohot kuch keh jaati hai (When there is a bonding between people, between co-actors, there is no need to say much. The bonding speaks for itself).”
Speaking about the trolls around Sharmin Segal’s part in Heeramandi, he mentioned how some of the greatest masterpieces ever made have been rejected throughout the history of cinema. “So everybody has the right to comment. I’ll again use this word she is a ‘wonderful soul.’ A wonderful human being and I had a wonderful time working with her, and mark my words she’ll go places.”
