Heatwave expected in 7 provinces this weekend

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an advisory for heatwave conditions as temperatures in seven provinces are expected to exceed 40°C.

The conditions are expected from Saturday, 2 November until Monday, 4 November.

HEATWAVE CONDITIONS EXPECTED IN MOST PARTS OF SA

The weather service said a heatwave is expected to affect Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State, North West, Mpumalanga, as well as north-eastern areas of Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 2 November until Monday, 4 November as mentioned above.

“Hot to very hot conditions are expected across these provinces with temperatures expected to exceed 40°C in the Lowveld areas, the Limpopo Valley and Western Bushveld,” the weather service said.

POSSIBLE IMPACTS:

  • Heat exhaustion
  • Heat stroke

The weather service has advised people to:

  • Avoid going out in the sun between 12:00 and 15:00
  • Drink sufficient water as often as possible
  • Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose clothes
  • Avoid strenuous activities when the the temperature outside is high
  • Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles
