Cannes Film Festival 2024 jury president Greta Gerwig may not have played the titular toy in her 2023 blockbuster, Barbie, but there’s no denying that her wardrobe while out and about in the French Riviera in recent days would be the envy of even the most fashionable 11.5-inch doll.
Gerwig is the first female American director to serve as president of the jury of the prestigious film festival (which is celebrating its 77th year), and at 40 years old, she is the second-youngest jury president in the festival’s history.
Cannes is a notoriously stylish festival, with red carpets and yachts aplenty where stars can see and be seen in their fashionable finest. Gerwig and her stylist, Karla Welch, rose to the challenge when pulling looks for her time abroad.
“She’s the [jury] president, so we can either follow some sort of rules, or just do what we want—and we’re sort of doing both!” Welch told Vogue of their collaboration.
