Roast potatoes are an integral part of the Sunday dinner, but why not take things to the next level with a giant roast potato? Whether you want to add something new to your roast spread or fancy the tastes of a Sunday roast without whipping up a whole dinner, the recipe from TikTok chef Max has wowed fans.
Max showed how he transforms a jacket potato into a giant roast potato in a video on his TikTok page @mealswithmax.
At the time of writing, his video of the “giant roast potato” has amassed over 80 thousand views.
He said that his recipe promises a “crispy” and “lovely” potato which can be made in the air fryer or the oven.
Max explained that the giant roast potato uses the same potato you might reach for when making a jacket potato, but the difference is that you peel the skin.
“I’m sure you’ve all had a jacket potato but have you had a giant roast potato? It’s basically like a jacket potato but without the skin so it’s essentially a roast potato but just a massive one,” he said.
“So we are going to boil a potato that we have just peeled whole with a bit of rosemary, some thyme and some garlic and after about 10 minutes drain it and let it steam dry and give it a little shake to ruffle up the edges.”
Next, he drizzles some oil ontop of the potato and seasons it with a “bit of salt”.
“Whack it into the air fryer or the oven for about half an hour or so at 200C,” he said.
“[It] should come out nice and crispy like this. [It] had a little bit of a weird marking on the bottom due to the air fryer but that’s all good, it still tasted amazing and that’s on the bottom anyway.”
You can serve your giant roast potato in any way you like, however, Max shared his tasty way of topping the potato using pigs in blankets, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, and gravy.
“I cooked some pigs in blankets to go on top, then sliced open the potato, went on top with a whole bunch of butter – nice healthy serving of that,” he said.
“As you can see the bottom is nice and crispy just like a roast potato.
“Go on top with some cheese followed by some maxi’s SPG (salt pepper and garlic), pigs in blankets, a bit of honey, followed by some rosemary and thyme, a bit of gravy and it’s done. Lovely!”
