Cook bacon in a frying pan on the hob is normally a go-to method, but it turns out there is a much better way to make it.
Madeline Tague, a cook and founder of Mad About Food has explained that baking bacon in an oven instead of frying it will make the bacon much crisper and delicious.
She said: “I have to give my older brother all of the credit for opening my eyes to the magic of baked bacon.
“It makes the bacon perfectly crispy every single time. Which is a huge cooking win!
“The other plus of cooking bacon in the oven is the clean up. When you cook bacon in a pan the grease can splash around and dirty the kitchen. Then you need to find a way to dispose of that grease.”
Cooking bacon in the oven allows it to cook more evenly and slowly which allows it to come out crisper than pan-fried bacon would.
Baking it is also easier as you can leave it to cook without constant attention, which is perfect if you are having a lazy morning or need to multitask if you are making a full English breakfast.
Making “perfectly crispy bacon every single time” is incredibly easy according to Madeline, who has said it only takes 15 minutes to cook.
How to make perfectly crispy bacon
You will need:
- A pack of bacon
- Baking tray
- Baking paper
Method
All you need to do is preheat an oven to 200C and line a tray with grease-proof baking paper.
Then arrange the bacon strips on the tray closely together but make sure they do not overlap.
Leave the bacon to cook for 15 to 20 minutes, and if it is as crispy as you wish then remove from the oven.
Place on a paper towel to remove any excess grease and then transfer to a plate or buttery piece of bread to enjoy.
Once you need to clean up, simply throw away the greasy baking paper so there is no need to spend ages scrubbing away at a stained frying pan.
