Gdynia is the beautiful and super cheap Polish seaside city with way less tourists | Europe | Travel

One city in northern Poland is fast growing into the perfect place for tourists to visit.

Gdynia is less than 100 years old so at first glance, it might seem that there is not much to do there – especially in terms of historical places to see.

When the city was first built, it was a place of modernity and prosperity – with some likening it to a land of opportunity in the same way New York is seen.

There are plenty of activities to do and things to see in the area. One of the best places to visit is Orlowo Pier. The pier was first established in 1924 but was rebuilt five years later and extended as a haven for coastal shipping vessels. After World War Two, the pier was destroyed in a storm and reduced to its current length.

One visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “Tucked just around the corner from the concrete jungle of Gdynia, Orlowo was an unexpected haven of peace and tranquillity. The pier is a lovely wooden structure with pleasant views, it is free and less commercialised. The views are very pleasant and the beach is a perfect place to while away an afternoon.”

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the area, Hola Gdynia is a modern and ideal location to explore the city from. The apartment-hotel hybrid is less than one km from Gdynia central beach and has a restaurant which offers traditional Polish food. Guests are able to enjoy activities in and around the area such as cycling.

One guest said: “This is a lovely place to stay in a central location, the beds are very comfortable, it has a modern design and is exceptionally clean. The staff are friendly and I’ll definitely come back – I recommend staying here.”

A great dinner spot is Michelin-starred, Oberża 86. This restaurant serves Polish cuisine in a modern way. One diner said: “We visited this restaurant with our family, including children. The staff were very friendly. The meals in the menu are seasonal, depending on the products. The local cuisine mixed with international kitchen was outstanding. Everything we ordered was delicious.”

To see a quieter side of Poland while still being able to make the most of traditional Polish food, history and landscape, Gdynia is worth a visit.
