Malaika Arora’s father Anil Mehta tragically passed away at 62 on Wednesday, September 11, in what is being reported as a suicide. He was laid to rest the following day at the Santacruz Hindu Crematorium in Mumbai, where members of the film industry gathered to pay their respects.
Following the prayer meet held on Friday night, September 13, celebrities including Gauri Khan, Bhavana Panday, Seema Sajdeh, Karisma Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, and Malaika and Arbaaz Khan’s son Arhaan Khan, visited the family home on Sunday to offer their support to Malaika and her mother Joyce Polycarp.

The Mumbai Police have recorded statements from Malaika, her sister Amrita Arora, and their mother. According to the police, Anil Mehta had called both of his daughters before disconnecting his phone. In their statements, Malaika and Amrita reported that their father expressed feeling “sick and tired” before his phone was turned off.

The police revealed that Anil Mehta jumped from his residence’s balcony, resulting in fractures in his right leg. The postmortem report confirmed his death was due to “multiple injuries.”
Malaika’s former husband Arbaaz Khan was among the first to arrive at the family home on Wednesday. Other members of his family, including Salim Khan and Salma Khan, his stepmother Helen, and siblings Alvira, Arpita, Sohail, and Salman Khan, also visited to offer condolences.

Following the tragedy, Malaika issued a statement requesting privacy for her family. “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time,” her statement read.
