Fury after bosses at crisis-hit NHS get £3,000 bonus for ‘outstanding performance’

FURY erupted tonight over bosses at crisis-hit NHS boards getting extra pay for “outstanding” performance.

Bonuses of more than £3,000 were handed to execs at health bodies in “special measures” due to management failures.

At present the Scottish Government has “oversight” of six NHS boards.

But BBC freedom of information requests revealed chiefs at four of them were given glowing appraisals.

That gave those on the top three pay grades an extra three per cent of their salaries, which range from £114,726 to £197,230.

Those assessed as “superior” picked up two per cent on top of any other pay awards.

Tory shadow health secretary Dr Sandesh Gulhane, who is a GP, said: “The one in seven Scots on NHS waiting lists will be shocked at this.

“SNP mismanagement of our health service has led to frontline colleagues being overworked and under-supported.

“Many boards are struggling to cope and were put into special measures.

“It is totally unacceptable that NHS head honchos are busy feathering their own nests.”
