As the season is set to change, so is the landscape of K-dramas. So far we had some unconventional, some engaging and some watery stories. But June 2024 promises to deliver stellar performance on each front. Choi Si Won is making a comeback to the small screen with DNA Lover. There’s a new reality program on the block – Agents of Mystery. We will see Lee Hye Ri and aespa’s Karina in this show, along with other ensemble cast. We also have a political thriller to look forward to with The Whirlwind. Let’s take a closer look at all K-dramas releasing in June 2024.
From Song Seung Heon starrer The Player 2 to Lee Chae Min-led Hierarchy, 8 K-dramas to add to your watch list in June 2024
1.THE PLAYER 2: MASTER OF SWINDLERS
The 2018 hit thriller drama The Player is returning to the small screen with a sequel! Titled The Player 2: Master of Swindlers, this drama brings Song Seung Heon back as Kang Ha Ri. Joining him are Lee Si On, Tae Won Suk, Jang Gyu Ri and Oh Yeon Seo as the story gets murkier with each new plan. The drama is set to premiere on TvN, starting June 3.
Teen high school dramas complete with twists and turns are making a comeback with Hierarchy. Roh Jeung Eui and Kim Jae Won star as young rich kids Jung Jae Yi and Kim Ri An at Jooshin High School, a place where a rich child’s admission is decided at birth. Lee Chae Min will join the cast as Kang Ha, whose past is a mystery and his arrival disrupts the hierarchy at Jooshin High. Hierarchy is set to premiere on June 7 on Netflix.
It has been quite some time since we all fell in love with a good hearted gangster. My Sweet Mobster aims to fix the issue. This drama is adapted from the web novel “A Woman Who Plays” by Park Soo Jung. Uhm Tae Goo stars as Seo Ji Hwan, a former gangster turned company CEO. He employs other goons with an aim to help them correct their lifestyle. He is joined by Han Sun Hwa as Go Eun Ha, a children’s channel YouTuber with very little success. Tae Goo and Eun Ha cross paths after she injures him during one of her part time jobs. Thus begins a tale of romance and more! My Sweet Mobster is set to premiere on JTBC from June 12.
Miss Night and Day chronicles the life of Lee Min Jin (played by Jung Eun Ji), a woman in her twenties struggling to land a decent job. One day, she finds herself in the body of a fifty-year old woman (played by Lee Jung Eun). Thus begins Min Jin’s journey living two different lives as the day switches to night. She lands a job with a prosecutor Kye Ji Woong (played by Choi Jin Hyuk). Miss Night and Day is set to premiere on JTBC on June 15.
Do not confuse this drama with the 2013 one of the same name. Scandal is a fresh makjang drama set to enthrall the audience with a tale of ambition, greed, love and heartbreak. The drama features an ensemble cast consisting of Han Chae Young, Han Bo Reum, Choi Woong and Kim Gyu Seon. Scandal is set to air from June 17 for five days a week on KBS2.
Korean reality TV has been gaining a lot of traction because of their entertainment and thrilling factors. One more name to join the ranks is Agents of Mystery. Lee Hye Ri, Lee Yong Jin, John Park, Kim Do Hoon, Lee Eun Ji and aespa’s Karina tackle some uncrackable and mysterious cases that other regular investigations have failed to solve. Agents of Mystery is set to premiere on June 18 on Netflix.
It has been a while since we saw Choi Si Won on screen, hasn’t it? He is soon making a return in DNA Lover as a handsome obstetrician named Shin Yeon Woo. Ofcourse, he has women fawning over him but he calls things off once it begins to get serious. Opposite Si Won is Jung In Sun as Han So Jin, a genetics researcher. She embarks on a mission to find a genetically compatible man to date. Thus she ends up crossing paths with the elusive Yeon Woo. It won’t be a romcom without second leads and exes. Lee Tae Hwan and Jung Eugene step in to helm those roles. What happens next? Find all about it when DNA Lover premieres on TV Chosun on June 22. Official posters and teasers are yet to be released.
8.THE WHIRLWIND
A nail-biting political story is soon to unfold in The Whirlwind. Veteran actors Sol Kyung Gu and Kim Hee Ae are pitted against each other in this thrilling story of political manipulation, power play and corruption. Sol Kyung Gu is Park Dong Ho, a prime minister who goes against the president he thinks is corrupt. Butting heads with him is Kim Hee Ae as Jung Soo Jin, the deputy prime minister of economic affairs. The drama will grace our screen on June 28 on Netflix.
