From Love Next Door to Pachinko 2, Queen Woo to No Gain No Love, 14 K-dramas premiering in August 2024





So far, 2024 has been quite stingy when it comes to new K-dramas each month. The roster barely reached eight and sometimes it was quite less. But K-drama gods have finally shown mercy on fans! This month, we have more than a dozen K-dramas to look forward too, including a few popular ones like Serendipity’s Embrace continuing their high-ranking and highly anticipated run. August 2024 welcomes actors like Cha Seung Won, Kim Seon Ho in The Tyrant; Byun Ho Han in Black Out; Jung Hae In, Jung So Min in Love Next Door, among other awaited releases like DNA Lover, Pachinko season 2, to name a few. Let’s take a closer look at K-dramas releasing in August 2024.

From Love Next Door to Pachinko 2, Queen Woo to No Gain No Love, 14 K-dramas premiering in August 2024

1. BAD MEMORY ERASER
Kim Jae Joong and Jin Se Yeon star in the romantic drama Bad Memory Eraser as Lee Goon and Kyeong Joo Yeon, respectively. Lee Goon is a tennis player, currently in a slump because of an injury. He uses something called a ‘memory eraser’ to get by every day. Joo Yeon is a psychiatrist who works at the research centre that created that memory eraser. Bad Memory Eraser is slated to premiere on August 2.

 

2. LOVE ANDANTE
We have had K-dramas that show love stories between South Korean and North Korean people. There is another one gracing our screens soon. This K-drama is titled Love Andante. It follows Im Joo Hyung (played by Kwon Hyun Bin), a South Korean pianist who is sent to live in the “peace village” for a year. There he meets Ha Na Kyung, the daughter of a North Korean officer. This fictional peace village was set up with as a symbol of unification between the divided countries. What follows after is a comical and romantic tale. Love Andante is set to premiere on August 7.

 

3. ROMANCE IN THE HOUSE
Imagine your parent leaving you in your childhood because of poor economic conditions and then coming back years later as a billionaire. That is how Byeon Mu Jin (played by Ji Jin Hee) makes a comeback in his daughter Byeon Mi Rae (played by Son Na Eun) and her mother Geum Ye Yeon’s (played by Kim Ji Soo) life in the drama Romance in the House. The drama also stars SHINee’s Minho as Mu Jin’s love interest. Romance in the House is set to premiere on August 10.

 

4. YOUR HONOUR
Son Hyun Joo as Song Pan Ho and Kim Myung Min as Kim Kang Heon go head to head in the upcoming crime thriller, Your Honour. Song is a judge who covers up the fact that his son murdered someone without knowing who the victim is. The murdered fellow is Kim’s son. Kim is the head honcho of a crime ring. Soon, an intense battle for justice ensues between these warring fathers. Your Honour is an adaptation of the 2017 Israeli drama Kvodo. It will premiere on August 12.

 

5. THE TYRANT
Kim Seon Ho made heads turn with his role in The Childe. He will soon be seen in a thrilling avatar as former agent Im Sang in The Tyrant. This drama is a political thriller backed with science fiction narration. Kim Seon Ho is joined by stalwarts like Cha Seung Won, Kim Kang Woo and Jo Yoon Su in a nailbiting race to uncover a bioweapon that was reportedly stolen from security. The Tyrant premieres on August 12 on Disney+.

 

6. PERFECT FAMILY
The word ‘perfect’ is often imperfect, if one looks closer. The Choi family in Perfect Family appears to be all happy and perfect but on the inside, they are just as imperfect as anyone else, maybe criminally so. Park Ju Hyun stars as Choi Seon Hee, whose friend Park Kyung Ho (played by Kim Young Dae) was murdered. His murder is connected to the Choi family and the secret starts to show its face when a detective (played by Bae Woo Jin) begins to ask questions long unanswered. Perfect Family is adapted from a webtoon of the same name and is set to premiere on August 14.

 

7. BLACK OUT
All of us loved seeing Byun Yo Han in Uncle Samsik. He is set to grace our screens again in Black Out, a crime thriller drama, as Go Jung Woo. Go Jung Woo is arrested on the charges of murder. He returns home after serving his ten-year prison sentence. He wishes to start afresh but obstacles are lined his way. Black Out is an adaptation of the novel Snow White Must Die by Nele Neuhaus. Black Out is set to premiere on August 14. A video teaser for the drama is yet to be released.

 

8. DNA LOVER
It isn’t a quirky drama if Choi Si Won isn’t in it. DNA Lover tells the story of a researcher named Han So Jin (played by Jung Eugene) who breaks up with her philanderer boyfriend. She then embarks on a detailed research mission to find a genetically compatible partner for her and finds a gynecologist named Yeon Woo (played by Choi Si Won) and a firefighter named Kang Hoon (played by Lee Tae Hwan) as top contenders. What will this researcher do next to find her perfect match? Watch DNA Lover from August 17 onwards to find out!

 

9. LOVE NEXT DOOR
Jung Hae In can be dubbed as everyone’s fictional K-drama boyfriend owing to his sweet look and memorable roles. So far, the actor has had a bittersweet fate in all his romance dramas. This time he is set to appear in the romcom Love Next Door as Choi Seung Hyo who lives next door to Bae Seok Ryu (played by Jung So Min). The two were childhood friends but parted ways on immensely bad terms. But as fate would have it, they cross paths again. Will love blossom or will there be heartbreak? Tune in to Love Next Door from August 17 to find out!

 

10. THE FROG
Go Min Si recently stunned us all in Sweet Home season 3. The actress is making a comeback with The Frog, a mystery thriller drama. Kim Yoon Seok plays Sang Joon, a motel owner in a peaceful rural area. Yoon Kye Sang stars as Yong Ha who runs a small business in the forest. Their peace is disrupted when a mysterious woman (played by Go Min Si) arrives in their part of town. The Frog is set to premiere on August 23 on Netflix.

 

11. PANCHINKO 2
All of us waited long to find out what happened with Pachinko’s Sunja (played by Kim Min Ah) next. The wait is almost over with Pachinko season 2, a Korean-English-Japanese language series, premiering this month. We will see our beloved Lee Min Ho reprise his role as the charming and mysterious Ko Hansu. Pachinko season 2 is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on August 23.

 

12. NO PAIN NO LOVE
Shin Min A, whom we all loved and adored in Hometown Cha Cha Cha is set to make a comeback with a quirky romcom No Pain No Love. She stars as Son Hae Young, a young office-going woman. She approaches Kim Ji Uk (played by Kim Young Dae) with a proposal of a fake marriage to avoid marriage talks at work. But as we know how the fake marriage trope goes, the two start developing feelings for one another soon. What happens next in their story? Watch No Pain No Love from August 26 to find out.

 

13. CINDERELLA AT 2 AM
Shin Hyun Been, who shot to fame with Hospital Playlist, is making a comeback this month as Ha Yeon Seo, a young office-going woman. She somehow escaped her abusive family and is now dating a younger colleague Seo Joo Won (played by Moon Sang Min). She finds it difficult to believe when she finds that Seo is actually the heir of the company she is employed at. Cinderella at 2 AM is set to premiere on August 24.

 

14. QUEENWOO
Jeon Jeong Seo in a historical fiction drama Queen Woo. She will seen playing the role of Woo Hee, a ruler during the ancient Goguryeo period. TVING has dropped the first look at its upcoming historical drama, which follows the perilous journey of Queen Woo, a Goguryeo queen thrust into a deadly power struggle after her husband’s sudden demise. With five tribes vying for control and ambitious princes eyeing the throne, she faces the daunting task of selecting a new king within a day.  Jeon Jong Seo takes on the lead role, portraying the queen’s transformation from a grieving widow to a formidable strategist. She’ll share the screen with a star-studded cast including Kim Moo Yeol, Ji Chang Wook, Jung Yu Mi, Lee Soo Hyuk, and Park Ji Hwan. The series will premiere on August 30.
