Jitendra Kumar, who paved his path in the entertainment industry with his hard work and exceptional acting skills, is now winning hearts with his recent releases like Kota Factory Season 3 and Panchayat. While acting was never in his plans, not many people know that Jitendra, aka Jeetu Bhaiya, is an IIT graduate. Yes, you read that right! The Kota Factory 3 star graduated from one of the top 5 IITs in the country. Jitendra Kumar completed his graduation from none other than IIT Kharagpur, which ranks 4th according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.

However, when the news of Jeetu Bhaiya being an IITian became public, his fans were left baffled, unable to understand why he graduated from such a prestigious institute only to pursue acting as a career. In an interview, the Kota Factory star revealed that graduating from a reputed engineering institute and becoming a good engineer are two different things.

When Did Jitendra Kumar Think of Becoming an Actor?

In an interview with The Better India, Jitendra Bhaiya said, “While I was pursuing my B.Tech in civil engineering, I began actively participating in the college theatre scene. It was the first time I encountered a proper stage, lights, script, and everything else. As part of the Hindi Dramatic Society, we performed plays by Vijay Tendulkar, Rabindranath Tagore, and Mahesh Dattani. A personal favorite was performing the role of the lead protagonist in Tendulkar saab’s Sakharam Binder. In my final year, I performed plays written by my college senior and dear friend Biswapati Sarkar.”

After graduating in 2012, Jitendra had no aspirations for an acting career. However, campus placements were not yielding any opportunities either. During his struggle to find a job, his senior, Biswapati Sarkar, whom he fondly calls ‘Biswa,’ joined The Viral Fever (TVF) comedy collective as a writer. Biswa frequently spoke to Jitendra about TVF, their work creating 5 to 10-minute comedy sketches on YouTube, and encouraged him to act in these videos as well.

“These conversations began in my final month in college. By May 2012, I left for Mumbai and joined TVF as an actor. But I wasn’t getting many acting gigs in the early days, and barely three months later, I decided to quit and find a proper job in a construction company,” he recalls.

Recently, Jitendra Kumar’s performance in Panchayat and Kota Factory Season 3 has received tons of appreciation. While Kota Factory is available on Netflix, one can tune in to Amazon Prime to watch Panchayat.
