IF you’re looking for a holiday destination where a boozy break won’t break the bank, you’re in luck.
A recent study found four cities that have direct flights from the UK where you can find a pint of beer under £2.
The average cost of a pint in the UK is around £5, although this hits highs of £9 in London.
But head abroad and you will pay less than half the UK’s average.
Revealed by DFDS after analysing 70 European cities, you can even visit them all on one of the ferry companies many trips.
Here are the four places to add to your summer hotlist.
Prague
Coming in highest on the list was Prague, where beer was £1.93 a pint.
The country is the birthplace of Budweiser and Pilsner, which means you can find a number of brewery tours.
New last year was the immersive beer experience Pilsner: The Original Beer Experience.
The Sun’s Mark Hodge said when he recently visited: “It’s really no surprise the beer is so cheap here, considering it’s the country’s most famous export.
“And the city’s biggest asset is its architecture, which managed to survive the carpet bombing that wrecked so many historic buildings in World War Two.
“The standout for me was the 9th-century Prague Castle, which is the largest old castle in the world, covering 750,000 square feet.”
Here are 10 things to do on your next visit to Prague – and Brits could one day even get to Prague from London by train.
In the mean time, flights between the UK and Prague start from £14.99 with Ryanair.
Valencia
Also home to cheap beers, Valencia pints can be found for as little as £1.72.
It is also the birthplace of paella, as well as home to beautiful sandy beaches.
I visited the Spanish city back in 2022, previously saying: “Here you can have several holidays rolled into one.
“Star of the show is the City Of Arts And Sciences — a £760million spaceship-like mega-complex, which took a decade to build.
” And if you’re looking for a budget night, head to La Finestra. Everyone comes for the cheap beers and mini pizzas (€2.50).”
Flights between the UK and Valencia start from £14.99 with Ryanair.
Porto
Also one of the cheapest to have pints of beer was Porto, joining Valencia with pints for £1.72.
If you don’t fancy a beer, you can head to the Pink Palace in the World of Wine (WOW) building, which has themed rooms dedicated to the joys of rosé wine.
The Sun’s Head of Travel Lisa Minot recently said: “As well as loads of restaurants and bars in picturesque settings, there are ten miles of beach so you will never be fighting for a place to plonk your towel.
“With minimal effort on e-bikes from Miramar beach you can explore the coast at leisure and find perhaps a whole cove to yourself.
How did DFDS find the cheapest beer in Europe?
DFDS explained in the research: “We’ve analysed 70 European cities, 8,000 bars and pubs, scoured social media and scanned over 40,000 reviews to determine the best cities for beer.
“The results are based on beer quality, price, social media buzz, and the character of bars and pubs, combined to award a score out of 100.
“Underdogs Spain and the Czech Republic top the ranking, whilst Germany and Belgium, which are globally renowned for their beer, find themselves in spot seven and nine.
“The UK, despite its iconic pub culture, only just makes it into the top 20, with Manchester taking the final spot.
