Former teacher charged with possessing child pornography, making obscene films

SINGAPORE: A former teacher was charged on Monday (Jun 10) with possessing child pornography, making obscene films and obstructing justice by failing to give the police login credentials to his mobile devices.

Quake Eugene, a 40-year-old Singaporean, was given four charges in total.

Court documents state that he possessed 10 pieces of child abuse material at a flat in Corporation Road in March 2023. He is also accused of having 3,796 pieces of obscene material and making 23 obscene films between June 2019 and November 2019.

The last charge is for intentionally obstructing the course of justice by failing to provide the police with login credentials to an iPhone and MacBook.

Quake indicated that he would not be hiring a lawyer and was given a date to plead guilty in July.

In response to queries from CNA, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Education said Quake has been suspended since March 2023 and is no longer teaching in any school.

“MOE takes a serious view of staff misconduct and will take disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to our standards of conduct and discipline, including dismissal from service,” the spokesperson said.

If convicted of obstructing justice, Quake could be jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.

For possessing child abuse material, he could be jailed for up to five years, and fined or caned.

For possessing obscene material, he could be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$20,000, or both.

For making obscene material, he could be jailed for up to two years, fined up to S$40,000, or both.
