A TikTok foodie has been left baffled by a classic UK dish they had “never heard of”.
The much-loved Pot Noodle sandwich is a cheap, carb-heavy lunchtime bite – but for content creator Dismal Dinners, it was a disastrous experience.
Questioning why the Pot Noodle sandwich is “a thing” in the latest instalment of their “dismal dinners” series, the TikTok user made the sandwich for themselves.
They were underwhelmed by the culinary creation and stumped when members of the public revealed their love for the strange sandwich combination in the comments.
“When was it a thing? And who invented this thing?,” were just some of the questions Dismal Dinners had for his viewers.
Dismal Dinners asked: “Does anyone actually like this thing or is this just a Heston Blumenthal psy-op to get us to eat his things? I don’t know.”
The Pot Noodle sandwich has become a staple of student diets, according to a post from The Student Room. James May even tried the sandwich on his YouTube channel.
Although others have been impressed by the simplicity of the sandwich, Dismal Dinners was horrified and questioned whether anyone actually liked the creation. He said: “Once you’ve come to terms with the fact your sandwich has jaundice, pick it up with one hand, realise you can’t pick it up with one hand, you have to pick it up with two hands and take one big salty bite and wonder where the flavour’s gone.
“Where’s the flavour gone? You had to pour the flavour out to stop the sandwich going soggy, that’s where the flavour’s gone.”
While Dismal Dinners wasn’t keen, his fans continued to defend the culinary creation and even provided tips on how to fix the spilled filling.
“Butter the bread but use one slice, folded to make a sandwich,” one user suggested, adding: “That way, it’s more difficult for the contents to fall out.” Another wrote: “Have a sandwich AND a pot noodle and dip the sandwich in, that’s the real play.”
A third suggested removing the bread and water altogether. “The best way to eat a pot noodle is dry,” they claimed. Dismal Dinners replied: “This is absurd.”
