Posting to TikTok, Esther Sturrus – a flight attendant who works for Dutch airline KLM – said guests at hotels shouldn’t touch the TV remote.
“Those things are dirty,” she revealed, adding that there is a clever way to turn over the channel.
Instead of touching the remote control when turning over the channel, or getting up every time you want to watch something different, the shower cap provided comes in handy.
The supplied shower cap can be used to wrap around the TV remote so that your fingers aren’t directly touching the buttons.
One TikTok contributor said they “always take sterile wipes for the remote” while another added: “Omg, yes the TV remote; I hate touching those things.”
“What else is a show cap useful for?” Esther teased. She revealed: “Use it as a cover over your shoes!”
The shower cap can fit around a pair of shoes that you can then pack into your suitcase.
By covering the bottom of the shoes, the clothes in the suitcase are not exposed to dirty soles.
But one TikTok contributor jibed: “I guess I’m the only one who brings three to five pairs of shoes on vacation.”
People were impressed, however, by one “genius” hack when staying in a hotel room.
“Are your curtains not closing properly?” Esther queried, adding you should “use a clothes hanger” to keep them shut.
Any light pouring into the room because of gaps in the curtains is bound to wake you up – especially in summer when sunrise is around 4.30am.
But by clipping the curtains together with a hotel hanger, you can rest assured that the room will stay lovely and dark, which is ideal for sleeping in.
A TikTok fan said: “The hanger for the drapes is genius.” Another added: “The hanger! Thank you, I hate light in the room at 6am.”
Somebody else beamed: “Finally someone who knows what she is talking about.” Another called Esther “smart”.
In agreement with how great the hotel hack is, another commentator said they’ve used the curtain hack “many times”.
A lot of people agreed Esther shared “great tips” and some said they were “clever” and “useful”.
