Farmers protest: Centre offers to form another committee, say farmers

The government has offered to form another committee to discuss the issue of legalising the minimum support price (MSP) with farmers who plan to hold a tractor march to Delhi on February 13 demanding legalising MSP and other demands.

A team of central government including ministers such as Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda and Nityanand Rai, met farmer representatives yesterday in Chandigarh.

“They offered to form another committee which will meet frequently, in a time bound manner, ” said a farmer representative adding that the committee formed after the previous protest has not come out with any conclusive outcome despite meeting several times.
He added that a solution could be reached only if the center offers something concrete before February 13. The center has offered to meet farmers again before Tuesday. Till then the farmers will continue preparations for the Dilli Chalo protest call, maintaining their stance.

The meeting occurred in a conducive environment, with BJP ministers engaging in open discussions about our demands, the source said.

The protest is being organised by the non political wing of Samyukt Kisan Morcha aimed at highlighting various demands including guaranteed minimum support prices (MSP) for crops, farmer pensions, and crop insurance.
