The meeting comes amid ongoing protests by farmers at the Punjab-Haryana border in Khanauri
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait on Friday met former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Several AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh, were also present at the meeting. Speaking to the media afterwards, Tikait shared that the advocates present raised a number of welfare issues.
“The advocates had some welfare issues. They mentioned that when their government comes, they will address these issues in the first Cabinet meeting. One of the concerns is the transport of lawyers between courts, ” the farmer leader stated.
Tikait further added that the Advocate Protection Act would also be addressed and passed once the new government is formed.

AAP senior leader Sanjay Singh also commented that the meeting went well, and that they discussed issues related to lawyers with senior advocate KC Mittal.
“Rakesh Tikait had a very good meeting with Arvind Kejriwal. They discussed some issues related to lawyers with senior advocate KC Mittal,” Singh said.
The meeting took place amid ongoing protests by farmers at the Punjab-Haryana border in Khanauri, where they are demanding a legal guarantee for a minimum support price (MSP) for crops from the central government.
Farmers, under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been camped at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 last year. Their march to Delhi was blocked by security forces, forcing them to continue their protests at these border sites.
The protests have gained more attention as farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike for 39 days, has called on more farmers to join the protests on Saturday. Despite his deteriorating health, Dallewal has refused medical aid, showing his resolve in the fight.
The AAP-led Punjab government has made several efforts to persuade Dallewal to accept medical assistance, but he has remained firm in his stance. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Thursday that a team of government doctors has been regularly monitoring Dallewal’s health.
