Emergency services raced to the scene on Barrhead Road, east of the junction with Ladykirk Crescent, in Paisley, after the alarm was raised.

Elizabeth was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

And now the pensioner’s devastated family have paid tribute to the “incredible” woman after the crash.

They have described her as a “selfless, caring nurse” who had an “overwhelming desire” to help people.

The family have also launched a fundraiser to help raise money to buy a cuddle cot for a local hospital in Elizabeth’s honour.

A cuddle cot is a cooling device that helps heartbroken parents spend some time with their baby who has passed away.

Elizabeth’s daughter Julie wrote on the GoFundMe page that this was something that was close to her mum‘s heart.

She said: “Our mum Elizabeth Kennedy was tragically killed in Paisley on Hogmanay 2024.

“We as a family are absolutely devastated and in memory of our mum we would like to raise funds to buy a cuddle cot.

“A cuddle cot is a small, portable, lightweight unit that enables families experiencing the loss of their baby at any age or gestation to spend more time with their baby to create precious memories.

“Our mum was a very loving, generous and selfless caring nurse for many years and had an overwhelming desire to help others.

“Over the years mum would hand knit premature hats, cardigans and shawls for our most vulnerable babies as well as angel robes for babies born sleeping.

“We have decided to create this fundraiser as we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from everyone and especially to the wider community who came together when we needed them the most.”

So far, the fundraiser has reached £1,622 out of its £1,800 target and Julie thanked everyone for their generosity.

Many have flocked to the comments of the fundraiser as they also paid tribute to Elizabeth.

One person wrote: “I am so saddened about what happened to your mum.

“She sounds like she was an incredible, selfless woman and even in such tragedy she will be helping others.

“I’m sure she would be very proud of you for doing this. I unfortunately had to use one of these cots and I know how important they are. Thinking of you all.”
