In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, actors Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Shriya Pilgaonkar redefined how they approach roles, focusing on the human aspect of characters rather than simply portraying a profession. Several prominent stars have shared their perspectives on this evolving approach to acting.

The Evolving Art of Acting
Manoj Bajpayee highlighted the shift in how actors embody their roles, saying, “Journalist ka role karne ke liye uski life jaake dekhni nahin padti.” The actor played a journalist in his recently-released film Despatch. He emphasized that portraying a profession is not about replicating the external aspects of the job but understanding the person behind the profession. Manoj Bajpayee also reflected on his journey as an actor, stating, “Pehle hum job play karte the, then we started to be a human, not a job.” He points out that earlier, actors would focus on playing a job, but now the emphasis is on portraying the human behind the role.
Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar further supported this view, explaining, “As an actor, whenever I approach playing a profession on screen, we are playing a person, hum us insaan ko potray kar rahen hain na ki profession ko.” For her, the core of acting is about showcasing the emotional depth of the individual, not just the job they perform. Pilgaonkar also stressed the uniqueness of each character, noting, “We can’t generalize what body language and headspace will be.” This reflects the shift towards portraying individuals with their own distinct personalities and experiences.
Highlight diverse personalities within professions
Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared his thoughts on how the portrayal of characters has evolved, saying, “Pehle kisika role krte the toh ek tareeke se potray kiya jaata tha par abhi ek hi profession ya character ki different personalities hoti hain.” He highlights how the diversity within a profession has led to more nuanced performances.
