Manoj Bajpayee is gearing up for his 100th film release Bhaiyya Ji, a high-octane action revenge drama. Following the success of Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, which recently surpassed 1 Billion watch minutes on ZEE5, Bhaiyya Ji promises to deliver another gripping tale of revenge and justice that showcases a never-before-seen avatar of the versatile actor. Starting July 26, viewers can witness Manoj Bajpayee’s portrayal of a larger-than-life character, blending the raw intensity of UP-Bihar’s hinterland with the swaggering charisma of South Indian cinema.

Helmed by Apoorv Singh Karki and backed by Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Samiksha Oswal, Shael Oswal, Shabana Raza Bajpayee, and Vikram Khakhar, this nerve-wracking thrill ride of revenge and justice is poised to set screens ablaze.
Manoj Bajpayee tells Bollywood Hungama how he delved into the nuances of crafting such a complex character. He emphasized the importance of authenticity over imitation, stating, “I didn’t try to fit into any specific format. I always approach any role, format, or genre with full conviction.” For Bhaiyya Ji, he simply amplified his natural intensity while maintaining the core of believability.
He added, “Bhaiyya Ji, I didn’t want to change; I just pushed it a little higher, but the confidence, believability, and realism were things I wanted to keep intact so that people could relate to the character and his struggle and fight. This is the response I have received from all corners. There is a misconception that you have to be very loud to fit into commercial films. I don’t think so. I believe you just need to project a little higher, making it accessible to people, but still delivering a believable performance. The audience should relate to the character, his trauma, and his grief. It shouldn’t look like acting; it should feel like it’s happening right in front of people’s eyes.”
The idea had been incubating in his mind for years, and he envisioned it as a character-driven, independent film. When director Apoorv approached him with a vision for a commercial film, the actor wholeheartedly embraced the challenge. “The story idea was mine because it had been with me for many years. I wanted to create a middle-of-the-road cinema or an independent film dealing with the psyche of vengeance or revenge. When Apoorv heard the idea, he wanted to make it a commercial film. So, I gave it to him and committed to completely surrendering to his vision. Revenge comes from a very deep emotion, and this is what we wanted to delve into. We wanted to explore the origins of this feeling. To do this, we needed to make the mother’s pain and grief much more significant so that we could understand where the emotion of vengeance was coming from. It was quite extraordinary to capture all of this in a mainstream film,” Bajpayee added.
Bhaiyya Ji follows the journey of a retired and feared criminal who seeks vengeance for the brutal murder of his younger brother. When a trivial argument leads to tragedy, Bhaiyya Ji comes back from his peaceful retirement to confront the powerful Gujjar responsible for his loss. Gathering his loyal associates, he ignites a fierce campaign of retribution that threatens to upend the entire criminal underworld. But as the stakes rise and the danger mounts, will Bhaiyya Ji’s quest for justice come at too high a price?
