In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Aparshakti Khurana, Rahul Bose, and Anupria Goenka discussed their latest film Berlin, delving into various topics, including the often-overlooked issue of entourage costs in the film industry. The conversation shed light on how these costs impact film budgets and the dynamics on set.
EXCLUSIVE: Aparshakti Khurana, Rahul Bose, and Anupriya Goenka discuss entourage costs
The burden of entourage costs
Anupria Goenka voiced her concerns regarding the financial burden that entourage costs impose on productions. She stated, “I feel entourage cost is a huge cost which the production has to bear, and it often takes away from putting in the money where it is really, really required in the film.” She emphasized the need for “uniformity” in how these costs are managed, noting that for actors, their entourage often becomes a “safe space” that enables them to perform better.
A shift in perspective
Aparshakti Khurana added his perspective, expressing a desire for a more controlled approach to entourage costs. He remarked, “I don’t think we belong to that space of actor,” referencing the differences in treatment that some actors experience compared to others. He recalled, “When I started, I have picture-perfect memories of actors not getting what perhaps someone else’s entourage was receiving,” pointing out disparities in amenities like hotel rooms and travel arrangements.
Security and necessity
Rahul Bose weighed in, sharing a pragmatic view on security measures for actors. “If outdoor shoots are going on, give my security to Anupria; I don’t need security,” he remarked, highlighting how sometimes actors’ demands for security can be excessive. He pointed out that if someone like Anupria requires additional security during an outdoor shoot, it makes sense for the production to accommodate that need rather than unnecessarily inflating budgets with superfluous expenses.
The importance of fair treatment
The trio emphasized that the distribution of resources should not be a function of ego but rather what is “correct, needed, and affordable.” Rahul noted, “Sometimes it will happen where her entourage will be larger than mine because she needs it. That’s fine, and sometimes mine will be more than his. It should be about fairness.”
Celebrating the release of Berlin
The stars celebrated the release of their film Berlin on Zee5, which premiered on September 13.
