THE UK’s fastest and tallest roller-coaster — 1½ times the height of Nelson’s Column — has been completed.

Thorpe Park’s Hyperia will reach speeds of 80mph- a British record- and take riders up to a dizzy 236ft.

The track is 1km long and adrenaline junkies will be spun around enough to experience “weightlessness” during the ride.

It is on track to become the most death-defying ride in Britain ahead of its opening at Thorpe Park, in Surrey, this Spring.

The track is 995.4m long – longer than any other coaster in the UK.

This week a 500-tonne crane helped lift the 92nd and final piece of the ride.

It brings to a close months of work and 5,292 man-hours to build it.

Hyperia features several variations of loops meaning riders will be upside down for much of the ride.

And a ‘splashdown’ element means daredevil riders will get a soaking as they glide over a lake below.

Neil Poulter, Divisional Director at Thorpe Park, said: “We’re delighted to be launching the UK’s tallest, fastest and most weightless ride here – which has been years in the making.

“We are excited for thrill seekers to be able to experience Hyperia which will be an amazing addition to our other record-breaking rides.

“Thorpe Park is a must-visit for those looking to embark on an exhilarating adventure with friends and family.”

It will also include a lap bar restraint to create a “weightless” feeling for riders – despite the massive track weighing a staggering 232 tonnes.

Hyperia will be open for victors when Thorpe Park opens on March 23.
