Ex-Orlando Pirates striker faces charges after ‘drunk driving’

Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango could face charges of reckless driving after getting involved in an accident.

The 32-year-old Marumo Gallants attacker was involved in a car accident in Bloemfontein leaving him injured. It is alleged that Mhango was drunk and ended up hitting a taxi. According to various reports, the former Orlando Pirates striker was charged with drunk driving as well as negligence.

Gallants’s spokesperson Sello Nduna has confirmed that Mhango was involved in an accident.

Unfortunately, we saw this very late yesterday on social media. That is when some of our guys from the team tried to check on him at our official residence,” Nduna told SNL24.

“We are still gathering more information as to what could have happened and then we will obviously have to deal with it accordingly because as a team, we don’t encourage such behaviour, especially for something that is against the law.

“We are still gathering information… we need to deal with all the facts. We don’t want to react to all these social media things that we have seen.

“We don’t condone such behaviour especially if it is against the law. We will follow the team’s disciplinary measures,” Nduna said.

A video which shows an injured Mhango went viral on social media this week. The former Orlando Pirates was seen talking to some residents while sitting in the driver’s seat of his VW Polo. The Malawian international has played for several teams in the PSL including Pirates, AmaZulu, and Gallants.
