YOUNG AT HEART: Esther-Rose McGregor, daughter of actor Ewan McGregor, is the face of Celine‘s latest fragrance campaign, her Twiggy-esque hair and makeup dovetailing with the scent’s ’60s inspiration.
The imagery debuted on Celine’s digital channels on Thursday, with Zouzou bringing to 12 the number of fragrances Hedi Slimane has developed for Celine Haute Parfumerie since it debuted in 2019.
It’s considered a daytime scent, with amber, musk and vanilla notes, and distills the image of young women in the ’60s, “fresh-faced and mischievous-looking heroines with their short haircut framing delicate features and a smiling pout,” according to Celine.
The scent is not named after the Zouzou, the noted French actress, model, singer and an icon of the 1960s and early 1970s, though it is believed she was down with Celine anointing the scent with her screen name, also once a nickname in France for young girls with short hair.
Press materials for the scent include an excerpt from Slimane’s “olfactory journal.”
“I wished to create a perfume about utopic adolescence, capturing an ideal of eternal youth. the recklessness of the young French writer Françoise Sagan, the ingenue boyishness of Jean Seberg filmed by Jean-Luc Godard, the magnificent heroines of The Velvet Underground, together with the young women I was able to photograph for more than 20 years,” he writes.
Esther-Rose McGregor, 22, is perhaps best known for making a cameo opposite her father in the 2022 Disney+ action series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” an adjunct of the “Star Wars” franchise.
Celine notes that Slimane first photographed the young McGregor when she appeared in the collection video for his “Tomboy” collection for spring 2024.
