Everton’s Dwight McNeil “probably needs surgery” on his knee injury, manager David Moyes has said.
The 25-year-old winger has not featured since the 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 4, having been a first-team mainstay until that point.
McNeil had scored four goals and provided three assists for Everton this season, and started 13 Premier League matches prior to his injury.
“He is probably going to have some surgery on his knee,” Moyes said on Friday. “It looks like we are going to have to get him back to the specialist, and I am saying surgery but they may decide on something else.
“It is a real blow to us because we need him not just for deliveries and set pieces, but his general play. He has performed really well for Everton recently.”
Everton, who are 16th in the Premier League, return to action on Saturday with a Premier League trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
