Epstein List: Ricky Gervais’ Golden Globes 2020 monologue calling out Hollywood for ties to Jeffrey Epstein goes VIRAL | English Movie News

The Hollywood film industry found itself at the centre of controversy following the release of sealed court documents pertaining to notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The documents, made public this week, reveal a list of names associated with the disgraced financier.
As people around the world reeled in shock over some of the names listed, a video of Ricky Gervais‘ scathing monologue at the 2020 Golden Globes Award ceremony has gone viral. The comedian, who hosted the 77th award function, roasted Hollywood’s elite actors, director and even studio bosses and called out the industry’s ties with Epstein, saying, “I know he’s your friend, but I don’t care.”
In the viral clip, Gervais says, “In this room are some of the most important TV and film executives in the world. People from every background. They all have one thing in common: They’re all terrified of Ronan Farrow. He’s coming for ya. Talking of all you perverts, it was a big year for paedophile movies. Surviving R. Kelly, Leaving Neverland, Two Popes. Shut up. Shut up. I don’t care.”

Farrow is an investigative reporter who published allegations of sexual abuse against film producer Harvey Weinstein. He also dug into details of Jeffrey Epstein’s financial ties with MIT.

The 58-year-old British comedian roasted the awards themselves before singling out various nominees for their dating habits, production company choices and racism within the industry.

He even took a shot at Prince Andrew, who was named in the list. Interestingly, he even took a dig at Leonardo DiCaprio, whose name also featured on the list, but merely as a ‘name-drop’ and not in any way affiliated with Epstein’s dealings. He said, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end his date was too old for him. Even Prince Andrew was like, ‘Come on, Leo, mate. You’re nearly 50-something’.”
As far as the list is concerned, some prominent figures in Hollywood also mentioned in the documents, include Michael Jackson, Cate Blanchett, Cameron Diaz, Bruce Willis, and Kevin Spacey. Political figures such as Bill Clinton and Donald Trump are also named. However, it is crucial to note that the mere mention of these names does not imply any involvement in criminal activities. It must also be noted that the claims are yet to be proven in a court of law.

The judge overseeing the case, as reported by Mirror.co.uk, has decided to keep a few names blacked out in the documents to protect the identities of those who may have been sexually abused.
Before the unsealing, these names were listed as variants of J Doe in court papers. Many individuals on the list had already been publicly identified as associates of Epstein in previous years of coverage of the case.
The unsealed court documents name over 170 people who were either associates, friends, or victims of Epstein. The move has brought forth a renewed focus on the extensive network surrounding Epstein and the far-reaching implications of his crimes.
