Parliament’s priorities for the UN Commission on the Status of Women

From around 10.00, MEPs and Commissioner Lahbib will debate the EU’s position on the upcoming 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. At noon, MEPs will vote on a draft report that emphasises the need for strong EU leadership in advancing equal opportunities for women across all areas of life.

In brief

Rights of persons with disabilities. Starting at 9.00, MEPs will discuss with Commissioner Lahbib the need to update the European strategy for the rights of people living with disabilities.

Animal welfare. In the afternoon, MEPs will quiz Commissioner Várhely on Ithe Commission’s plans to include the revision of outstanding proposals on animal welfare in its work plan for 2025.

Votes

At noon, MEPs will also vote on three resolutions on:

  • the 11th year of the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation and the deteriorating human rights situation in occupied Crimea, notably the cases of Iryna Danylovych, Tofik Abdulhaziiev and Amet Suleymanov;
  • the human rights situation in Kyrgyzstan, in particular the case of Temirlan Sultanbekov, and
  • the continued repression of civil society and independent media in Azerbaijan and the cases of Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu, Anar Mammadli, Kamran Mammadli, Rufat Safarov and Meydan TV.
