Ukraine: MEPs to sound alarm over Russia’s military cooperation with North Korea

In a debate at 9.00 with Commissioner Reynders and Hungarian Minister of EU Affairs Bóka, MEPs are set to reaffirm their strong support for Ukraine and criticise the military cooperation between Russia and North Korea in the war against Ukraine. A resolution will be put to vote on Thursday.

EU budget for 2025: plenary debate and press conference

After the votes at noon, MEPs will review the deal with EU member states on the 2025 EU budget in a debate with Commissioner Hahn. With climate, health, humanitarian aid and border management as its main priorities, the co-legislators also resolved the issues of repayment costs for the EU’s recovery fund. Parliament’s lead negotiators will give a press conference at 14.30. The plenary vote will take place on Wednesday.

Continued escalation of violence and threat of famine in the Middle East

Starting around 16.00, plenary and Commissioner Ferreira will discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank, the role of UNRWA, and the need for immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant.

Outcome of COP29 climate talks. MEPs and Commissioner Hoekstra will discuss the conclusions of the UN COP29 Climate Change Conference, held in Baku. The lead MEPs who attended the event welcomed the agreement reached but stressed that much remains to be done.

EU’s economic prospects amidst global uncertainty. In a debate around 14.00 with Commissioner Gentiloni, plenary will discuss the latest economic forecasts published by the Commission and the geopolitical and trade challenges surrounding them.

Bulgaria and Romania’s full accession to Schengen. Starting around 17.00, MEPs are expected to reiterate their call on EU countries to admit Romania and Bulgaria as full members of the Schengen area without further delay, in a debate with Commissioner Johansson.

Votes

At 12.00, plenary will vote on the Bulgarian candidate for the EU Court of Auditors and several objections concerning genetically modified maize authorisations.
