Emmys 2024 Nominations: The Bear roars in comedy with 23 nods, Shōgun conquers drama with 25 noms

The 76th Emmy Awards nominations are out, and it’s a battle of culinary chaos and historical epic. Announced on July 17 by Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale, the contenders for television’s biggest night revealed a record-breaking triumph for FX’s The Bear. The sophomore season of the critically acclaimed restaurant drama shattered Emmy history, garnering a whopping 23 nominations. This surpasses the previous record of 22 nominations held by 30 Rock in 2009. The Bear, which dominated the comedy categories at the 2023 ceremony, seems poised for another delicious win.

On the drama side, the global phenomenon Shōgun sliced through the competition with a staggering 25 nominations. This adaptation of James Clavell’s bestselling novel takes viewers on a journey through feudal Japan. The series’ impact is evident in the nominations for its lead cast, including Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, and Néstor Carbonell.

Award-winning comedies like Hacks and Only Murders in the Building secured multiple nods, while established dramas like The Crown and newcomers like Fallout join the race. The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on September 16, 2024 and Indians can watch it at 5:30 AM IST on Lionsgate Play.
