Amid the looming chaos of a failed spending bill designed to avoid a government shutdown, Senator Rand Paul offered a unique solution: name the world’s richest man the Speaker of the House.
In a Thursday morning message on X, the social media platform owned by said “world’s richest man,” Senator Paul suggested that Elon Musk replace Rep. Mike Johnson as the leader of the House and second in line to become president.
“The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress . . . ” Paul wrote, adding “Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds).”
Johnson put forth a spending bill working with Senator John Thune late Tuesday night, then immediately took to Fox News to defend the spending bill. For his part, Musk — who is advising President-elect Donald Trump on government efficiency leading “DOGE” — went on something of a rage-filled x-rant blasting the wasteful spending in the bill. Trump chimed in later to also blast members of his own party for falling into a “TRAP” set by “Radical-left Democrats.”
