Elden Ring: 5 Comic Books Fans Should Check Out

It is an exciting time for Elden Ring fans as FromSoftware prepares to launch the game’s first DLC. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion lures players back into The Lands Between for more Eldritch horror. The game has become known for its strange and fantastical concepts that beautifully blend deep lore and majestic settings with classic fantasy. Unfortunately, this DLC means that fans will again be left with an Elden Ring-sized hole after they finish it. Thankfully, fans can turn to another form of media, comic books, to scratch that Elden Ring itch. So, whether you are diving back into The Lands Between for the 100th time or summoning your steed for the first, here are a few comics to help keep this Shadow of the Erdtree party going.

Dark Souls And Bloodborne

A great place to look for Elden Ring-esque comic books is FromSoftware’s other franchises. The Dark Souls and Bloodborne properties have spawned their own comic book series. These comics expand on the lore established in the games and keep readers invested in their worlds. Titans Comics publishes both Dark Souls and Bloodborne. The most recent release is this year’s Bloodborne: The Bleak Dominion. This follows two hunters in the city of Yharnam searching for their missing protégé.

Hopefully, the success of Elden Ring and the previous title’s comic adaptations will mean an Elden Ring comic series is in the future.

Berserk: Elden Ring’s Biggest Inspiration

Ask any fan of FromSoftware and they will tell you that the Berserk franchise is a major influence on the games. Berserk is a long-running manga from Kentaro Miura. It takes place in a medieval Europe-inspired fantasy world and follows the protagonists, Guts and Griffith. Guts, a lone swordsman, seeks revenge on Griffith who betrayed him to become a demonic being. Many of the demonic elements found in Elden Ring draw inspiration from this series, so it is a great place to scratch that fantasy itch.

Coda: Elden Ring With More Fantasy

Simon Spurrier and Matias Bergara’s Coda is a wonderful series from BOOM! Studios. It takes place in the aftermath of an apocalypse that has wiped out the magic of a fantasy world. This parallels the way that Elden Ring picks up after a great war has ravished the beauty and wonder from The Lands Between. Also, Coda’s protagonist finds themselves in a brutal power struggle, similar to Elden Ring’s war over the Great Runes.

Wonder Woman: Dead Earth: DC’s Elden Ring

Wonder Woman: Dead Earth is a limited series from DC’s more adult-themed Black Label. Written and drawn by Daniel Warren Johnson, it follows Wonder Woman as she wakes up from a centuries-long cryogenic sleep. The post-apocalyptic world she wakes up in is full of nightmares, similar to the Tarnished coming to life in a Lands Between ravaged by creatures and death.

Birthright

Image Comics Birthright comes from Joshua Williamson and Andrei Bressan. The fantasy series follows a young boy, who is suddenly transported to another world. Just as players will find themselves in a new land in Shadow of the Erdtree. The boy, Mikey Rhodes, is this world’s destined hero meant to save the land. As with Elden Ring, it draws in fantastical ideals of destiny and the chosen one. While the series eventually pulls an adult Mikey back to the real world, his experiences have changed him and he may have a demon or two on his tail.

Hopefully, these suggestions will inspire you to pick up a comic after you have put down your controller.
