Here are just eight of the many services that Australian Unity is finding make a real difference in helping its clients spend more time in their favourite place: home.
1. Home updates
Sometimes a simple modification, like handrails in the bathroom, can make a world of difference to a home. Qualified occupational therapists will do an assessment to see what could make life easier. Even small maintenance and gardening tasks may be organised.
2. Meals made easy
Keeping on track with nutrition is essential and Australian Unity’s team can assist in organising meal delivery through trusted partners, shopping for groceries, or even food preparation itself.
3. Activating activity
We’ve all got to move, right? It’s not just a matter of keeping up with exercise, but the right exercise. Australian Unity can connect clients with exercise physiologists and physiotherapists who can provide a customised program of physical activity to work on crucial elements such as stability.
4. Staying social
The older we get, the easier it becomes to lose touch with family and friends, or the wider world in general. Australian Unity social support services are highly appreciated and can help to keep clients involved in hobby groups, connected with loved ones and their communities, take in a film, or even provide company at home – all crucial parts of keeping mentally healthy.
5. In-home nursing
Some small procedures may be done at home to make things easy. Whether it’s dressing a wound, taking blood pressure or assisting with medications, nurses can aid with specific needs.
6. Tech assistance
While technology has made it easier to stay in touch with our favourite people, for some older Australians it can still be tricky to navigate. Not everyone has a grandchild they can rope in to show them how to use Facebook or FaceTime. Australian Unity can help clients set up this technology and make the digital world accessible to them.
7. Recovery relief
Just as nurses can be organised to visit, so can physiotherapists, who play a vital role for many in assisting with recovery from injuries. Australian Unity’s experienced physiotherapists can assess you to prescribe exercises and advice to assist with pain reduction and maintaining your mobility.
8. Specialist health care
As well as those previously mentioned, clients also have access to Australian Unity’s specialist healthcare practitioners in many other areas, be it podiatrists, speech pathologists, dietitians and much more.
This is just a small glimpse at what a Home Care Package may offer. While these may be accessed via Home Care Package funding, depending on each individual’s assessment, Australian Unity also assists clients who want to pay privately for any specific service needed, either as a one-off or as a top-up to their Home Care Package services*.
“We pride ourselves on providing a valued service experience through every customer interaction,” Bowden explains. “We’re providing our clients with products and services that make a real difference to their lives.”
*As some services are subject to availability, it is recommended you reach out to Australian Unity on 1300 510 133 to find out what is available in your area.
