EasyJet flight from Scots city cancelled just moments before takeoff with all passengers on board

A SCOTS easyJet flight to Turkey was scrapped despite being fully boarded and on the runway due a “medical emergency”.

The Edinburgh to Bodrum plane was on the runway when it was forced to return to the airport stand so an unwell passenger could receive attention from medics.

Flight EZY3283, set to take off at 3.30pm on Wednesday, was already delayed due to air traffic control restrictions.

The ill passenger received urgent medical assistance from mercy crews.

But the flight was later cancelled due to crew members operating on the flight exceeding their maximum operating hours.

The cancellation meant all passengers had to be booked onto an alternative flight with another provider – or receive a refund.

One fuming passenger took to X and claimed they forked out over £3,000 for another flight.

They wrote: “Just been put off a plane at Edinburgh airport – told now no flight until Saturday and just book what you can elsewhere they are saying.

“No help whatsoever. It is awful please get us to Bodrum.

They followed up later that night, adding: “Just had to spend £3000 on a new flight and hotel outrageous when some people don’t have an option and holidays are ruined.”

The airline confirmed the air traffic restrictions caused an initial delay to the flight leaving Edinburgh.

They added it was due to a passenger requiring urgent medical assistance that crews then reached their maximum safety operating hours.

Mid-air drama as easyJet plane ‘with 100s on board’ turns back to UK airport

A spokesperson for easyJet said: “We are sorry that flight EZY3283 from Edinburgh to Bodrum yesterday afternoon was cancelled due to the aircraft returning to its stand prior to take off for a passenger requiring urgent medical care which led to the crew reaching their maximum safety regulated operating hours.

“We did everything possible to minimise the disruption for our customers and notified them directly of their options including a free transfer to an alternative flight, including with alternative carriers or a refund.

“The safety and well-being of customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and whilst this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
