Shortbread, whether flavoured or plain, is super tasty and ready in under an hour.
There are many recipes online but BBC Good Food’s one has more than 500 five-star ratings.
The recipe notes said: “Try making these easy, buttery shortbread biscuits for an afternoon activity with the kids.
“This recipe also works with chocolate chips or orange zest added to the shortbread dough.”
This makes 20 to 24 shortbread and is egg-free, nut-free and suitable for vegetarians.
Ingredients:
125g unsalted butter, softened
55g caster sugar, plus extra to finish
180g plain flour
Method:
Preheat the oven to 190C or 170C Fan before greasing and lining a baking tray or two.
Beat the butter and sugar together until smooth and then stir in the flour to get a smooth paste.
Turn on to a work surface and gently roll out until the paste is around 1cm in thickness.
Cut into shortbread rounds or fingers and place onto a baking tray.
Sprinkle with caster sugar and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until pale golden brown.
Set aside to cool on a wire rack before sprinkling with a little more sugar if you fancy.
The recipe notes added: “There are only three ingredients so they need to be right, this definitely isn’t the time to swap butter for margarine, or caster sugar for other sugars.”
