Mamelodi Sundowns star Thembinkosi Lorch recently poked fun at Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing, Bongani Sam. The Motherwell-born star recently turned a year older and hosted a party attended by close friends, including former Orlando Pirates player Thembinkosi Lorch.
However, several photos and videos from the party have been making rounds on social media, and it seems one of them has set social media abuzz.
DID THEMBINKOSI LORCH TAKE A JIBE AT BONGANI SAM AND KAIZER CHIEFS?
In one of the now-viral videos, Thembinkosi Lorch was heard saying, ‘Mele uyiphamise manje, angeke uyiphakamise futhi’ as Bongani Sam lifted his cake. However, his remarks can be loosely said, ‘You better lift it now because you won’t lift it again.’
Mzansi was more than convinced that Thembinkosi Lorch was not referring to the cake but trophies. Since being posted online, the video has undoubtedly gained thousands of comments and reactions. Fans quickly flooded X, formerly Twitter, after the video was shared.
Kaizer Chiefs hasn’t lifted any major trophy in years and has been struggling to regain its dominance in the league and continental football despite being one of the biggest clubs in the country.
However, that’s a different story for Orlando Pirates, who has been winning big recently. The club has won several titles and hopes to end Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the league. Despite being loaned out twice, Bongani Sam lifted some silverware with Orlando Pirates.
MOVE TO AMAKHOSI
Kaizer Chiefs recently announced Bongani Sam as their new player ahead of the coming season. The Glamour Boys have secured the 27-year-old left-back on a three-year contract with a one-year option from Orlando Pirates.
Bongani Sam is currently injured and is expected to join his teammates on the training grounds soon. However, Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. spoke to the media: “We are really excited to have Bongani Sam in our fold.”
Kaizer Motaung added, “Given his age, which is 26, he has amassed quite a bit of experience, having played for several teams in the Premiership since he started his top-flight career seven years ago. We do wish him well, and we know he will fit in as part of the Kaizer Chiefs Family.”
CAREER
No doubt inspirational stories don’t get better than Bongani Sam’s – from the Nedbank Ke Yona team search to playing for Kaizer Chiefs. Bongani Sam had his shot at fame in 2017 when he was spotted for the Ke Yona Trials. Since then, he has been winning big.
He started his senior career with Highlands Park in 2017. Two seasons later, after eight appearances, he joined Bloemfontein Celtic. However, his command of the game in his 21 appearances for Celtic saw Orlando Pirates table an offer.
In 2019, Bongani Sam joined Orlando Pirates. However, during his stint with Orlando Pirates, he was loaned to several clubs, including Moroka Swallows. In 2024, the 27-year-old left-back secured a three-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs.
