Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police (crime) Sizal Agarwal said Das was arrested under Section 13(1)B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 75 of Assam Prisons Act.
Objectionable material, including mobiles and spy cameras, were recovered from the jail. Das was arrested on the basis of a case registered in connection with the incident.
The other associates of Singh who were booked under NSA are Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh, Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
Assam Director General of Police GP Singh had said on February 21 that Punjab Police and Punjab government were informed about the unauthorised activities inside the NSA cell at Dibrugarh Jail.
A search operation led to the recovery of numerous unauthorised items, and the source of these items is currently under investigation. Upon receiving information on these activities, additional CCTV cameras were installed in the public area of the NSA Block.Singh said: “We had written to the jail authorities to instal additional CCTV cameras. Once the CCTV footage was analysed, it was found that they were using unauthorised items. Those were recovered during the search. We are analysing it and filed a case. Investigation is on.””The Punjab government and the state police have been informed as the detainees are here under the instruction of the Punjab Police,” he said.
Singh stated in X recently, “…Inputs received confirmed unauthorised activities, based on which the jail staff searched the premises of NSA Cell early this morning, leading to recovery of smartphone with SIM, keypad phone, TV remote with keyboard, spy-cam pen, pen drives, bluetooth headphone and speakers and smart watch which were lawfully seized by jail staff. Source of these unauthorised articles and mode of induction is being ascertained. Further lawful action is being taken and steps taken to prevent recurrence.”
