‘Destination dupes’ can help tourists save thousands and avoid crowds | Travel News | Travel

The removals company 1st Move International has shared some of the world’s best budget-friendly alternatives to popular holiday destinations, which some social media users are calling ‘destination dupes’.

With the Easter break looming, many families are looking for a quick getaway that offers a warm climate, great scenery and excellent value for money.

Mike Harveyh, travel expert at 1st Move International, noted that these holiday destinations could give tourists an unforgettable break for thousands less than they were expecting.

He explained: “Destination dupes are a new form of holiday destination driven by social media popularity. As seen on TikTok or Instagram, a ‘dupe’ generally means a more affordable or better alternative to a well-known product, meal, clothes or any applicable area of life.

“This trend has recently spread to the travel industry as destination dupes are being touted as alternative holiday locations where you can enjoy the charms of a dream destination without the premium or volume of tourists.”

1st Move International recommended that tourists looking for ‘dupe’ to Barcelona should take a city break in Valencia, which is just a three-hour drive away.

Also located on Spain’s eastern coast, Valencia features a mild climate during the spring and a history of nearly 1,000 years.

However, unlike Barcelona, tourists who take a city break in Valencia can visit the Central Market in the Old City, one of the oldest food markets in Europe where visitors can buy fresh produce and sample local delicacies.

Another ideal holiday destination for travellers looking to get better value for money is Kuala Lumpur, with 1st Move International stating the Malaysian capital is a good alternative to Singapore.

Whilst Singapore’s mix of a sprawling city skyline, up to the minute facilities and a relaxed, tropical coastline has brought tourists from all over the world to the city for decades, Kuala Lumpur is rapidly becoming a close rival.

Tourists taking a trip to the city can admire the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest pair of skyscrapers in the world that offer a stunning panoramic view, and the tranquil KLCC Park in the centre of Kuala Lumpur.

Finally, couples thinking about taking a romanic break in Paris were advised to consider Montreal, on the east coast of Canada.

Despite being thousands of miles apart from one another, Montreal is another French-speaking city that has similar architecture, making visitors feel like they are in the ‘City of Love’.

Tourists are even able to visit the Canadian take of the Notre-Dame cathedral, which has been a part of the Quebec city since 1656, along with unique attractions such as the Montreal Botanical Garden and Jean-Talon Market.
