Dem Rep Claims the Moon is ‘Made Up Mostly of Gases’ – IJR

A Democratic congresswoman is getting a lesson about space after a claim she made about the moon.

On Tuesday, a video surfaced of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) speaking about the moon.

She said, “You have the energy of the moon at night. And sometimes you’ve heard the word full moon. And sometimes you need to take the opportunity just to come out and see a full moon is a complete rounded circle, which is made up mostly of gases.”

“And that’s why the question is why — or how could we as humans can live on the moon. Are the gases such that we can do that? The sun is a mighty powerful heat. It is almost impossible to go near the sun. The moon is more manageable. And you will see in a couple of years that NASA is going back to the moon.”

Watch the video below:

It appeared she was referring to the Earth’s moon.

However, it is unclear where she got the claim it is made up of gases.

Users on X were quick to highlight the video and point out she was wrong:

The congresswoman later responded, writing, “Obviously I misspoke and meant to say the sun, but as usual, Republicans are focused on stupid things instead of stuff that really matters.”

“What can I say though, foolish thinkers lust for stupidity!” she added.

It was unclear what she was saying she misspoke about.
