The Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi, has announced a public holiday on November 7, 2024, for Chhath Puja celebrations. She shared the news on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle. As it is a public holiday, all government and private schools, as well as colleges, will be closed in Delhi.
Atisihi tweeted, “I am happy to inform you that the Delhi government has decided that there will be a holiday on November 7 for the festival of Chhath, so that all the brothers and sisters of Purvanchal can celebrate the festival with pomp and show.” (rough translation of the tweet.)
According to reports, Atishi made the decision after Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena wrote to the Chief Minister, requesting that November 7, 2024, be declared a holiday.
Students, parents, and guardians are advised to stay in touch with their respective school or college authorities for any updates.
The Chhath festival is dedicated to the worship of the sun god and is celebrated with a rigorous four-day ritual.
