Delhi-Meerut Expressway: Toll Price To Increase From April 1. (Representational Image)
Starting April 2024, tolls on Delhi-Meerut Expressway will rise by 5-10%, affecting thousands of commuters. The increase aims to boost infrastructure funds.
It appears that road trips will become more expensive starting in April 2024.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will raise tolls on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway by 5 to 10 per cent beginning April 1.
Light vehicles are likely to incur an additional 5 per cent toll levy per journey. However, the toll fee for big vehicles is likely to rise by 10 per cent.
This change would affect thousands of commuters using the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. The toll on this expressway is currently Rs 2.19 per km.
Given that the expressway is 135 kilometres long, this surge will significantly increase the cost of travel on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. According to reports, this increase is intended to produce additional income for infrastructure development and upkeep on this expressway.
The expressway features six entry and exit points: Sarai Kale Khan, Indirapuram, Vijay Nagar, Dasna, Rasulpur Sikrod, and Bhojpur. The major toll plaza on this expressway is located in Kashi, Meerut. The current toll for a car drive from Meerut to Sarai Kale Khan is Rs 160 and for light vehicles, it is Rs 250. With the price increase in April, this is likely to go up to Rs 168 for cars and Rs 262.5 for light vehicles.
According to the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, tariff adjustment occurs on an annual basis. As per reports, the proposal for revised toll prices was delivered by the NHAI’s Project Implementation Unit (PIU) on March 25. The revised tariffs will come into effect on April 1 following clearance from the Ministry of Road and Transport, according to the statement.
In 2022, the toll tax range was increased by 10 to 15 per cent, raising the tariff charges of all sorts of cars travelling on national highways by Rs 10 to Rs 60.
MONTHLY PASS:
According to Livemint, the monthly pass facility, which is cheaper for individuals who live within 20 km of the toll plaza, would be increased by 10 per cent.
INCREASE IN THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TOLL COLLECTION:
The toll collected on National Highways in fiscal year 2022 was Rs 33,881.22 crore, which was at least 21 per cent higher than the previous year, according to data examined by News18. Since 2018-19, the amount of toll collected on national highways in the country has increased by 32 per cent, totaling Rs 1,48,405.30 crore.
