Authorities seized counterfeit automobile wires worth over Rs 70 lakh in a raid on Wednesday at a warehouse in Delhi’s Rohini area. The raid was conducted on court orders and at least one lakh counterfeit products were recovered, officials said.
The order copy of the raid, which CNN-News18 has seen, mentions that an official appointed as a local commissioner by the court of a District Judge (Commercial Court) Rohini had executed the order.
Delhi police teams had also assisted the raiding party in the process, a senior officer from the force confirmed.
“The raid was carried out on the information of Suprajit Engineering Ltd., a company that is into manufacturing of clutch and brake wires for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. It was the company that had informed that counterfeit products of its brand were being sold and stored in the Rohini area in large quantities. Orders for raid were obtained from the district court and the raid was conducted under a local commissioner appointed by the court. During searches, more than one lakh counterfeit wires were recovered from the warehouse,” said an officer privy to the development.
The officer added that the total estimated cost of the recovered counterfeit products is over Rs 70 lakh in the black market, while original wires of the same quantity would have cost multiple times more.
“It is feared that these counterfeit wires were supplied to local automobile workshops where these were used as originals on higher values. It is also being looked into if the warehouse owner or any other person had any role to play in the manufacturing or distribution of these counterfeit goods. Further investigation in the matter is underway,” the officer added.
Recently, in another raid Delhi police had also recovered counterfeit airbags of top automobile brands. More than 900 counterfeit airbags worth Rs 1.8 crore were recovered in this case with the arrest of three people.
