After completing her B. Tech, Shivangi worked in a private bank for a few months.
New Delhi: Twenty-five-year-old Sub Lieutenant Shivangi Swaroop from Muzaffarpur district in Bihar has made history by becoming the country’s first female pilot in the Indian Navy. Shivangi will fly Dornier surveillance aircraft for the Indian Navy.
Shivangi is an engineer who was pursuing a B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology and was planning to build her career in this field, but she left her dream of becoming an engineer there.
How she entered the Navy
Shivangi explains that when she was in her fourth year, she came to know about the University Entry Scheme for the Navy. At that time, she learned that the entry of women as pilots in the Navy had begun. Then she decided that she wanted to become a pilot.
Shivangi took admission directly into Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology for B. Tech after passing 12th grade from DAV School, Muzaffarpur, Bakhri. After completing her B. Tech, Shivangi worked in a private bank for a few months while also preparing for recruitment in the Navy.
Shivangi passed the SSC (Short Service Commission) exam in 2017 during her M. Tech studies and was inducted as SAC (Pilot) under the 27 NOC course at the Indian Naval Academy. Her training began in Kochi and after completing the training, she became the first female pilot of the Navy.
Family background
Shivangi’s father Haribhushan Singh is the in-charge principal of a high school and her mother is a homemaker. Shivangi is the eldest among her siblings. On June 25, 2018, Vice Admiral AK Chawla formally announced Shivangi’s induction into the Navy and her training began in Kochi.
